Common pieces: €20–40 at flea markets

A vase, jug or bowl of a common model can still be found for a few dozen euros at flea markets. The €20–40 range reflects regular finds in my experience as a collector.

An Accolay signature alone does not make a piece rare. For a common shape, it is worth comparing several examples before relying on the highest asking price online.

Rare pieces: prices around €100–200

Some rarer or more sought-after Accolay pieces may cost around €100–200. An unusual shape, distinctive decoration or a less frequently seen model can explain the difference from common pieces.

This range is not a ceiling: particularly sought-after works can exceed these amounts. Conversely, describing a piece as “rare” in a listing does not establish its value.

What affects the value of Accolay ceramics?

The model, decoration, dimensions and condition matter more than the workshop’s name alone. A crack, chip, reattached handle or missing part can significantly affect the price.

To assess an Accolay vase, compare vases with similar shapes, sizes and decoration. The price of a lamp or a figure is not a useful reference for a common bowl.

Online asking prices and prices actually paid

An online listing primarily reflects the seller’s asking price — and only that. While it remains visible, it proves neither that a buyer accepts that amount nor that the piece normally sells at that price.

The publication date therefore matters. A very expensive listing that has been online for months, sometimes years, often shows that the market has not accepted the asking price. Comparing the amount with the age of the listing helps avoid using unsold pieces as a reference.

A listing that disappears does not prove the piece sold at the advertised price either: it may have been withdrawn, changed or negotiated. To assess a piece, favour several completed sales of comparable objects. At auction, also check whether the published result includes the buyer’s fees.
